OPENING KEYNOTE

Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Silberman Abella

“You cannot be born in the shadow of the Holocaust to two Jews who survived it, without an exaggerated commitment to the pursuit of justice.”

Justice Abella was born in a DP camp in Germany in 1946 and her family came to Canada as refugees in 1950. She is the first refugee, the first Jewish woman and the first child of Holocaust survivors appointed to the Supreme Court in Canada.
