Challenging Stories Book Club

Challenging Stories Book Club aims to provide grade 6 teachers with practical tools, ideas and strategies for how to teach the Holocaust using children's literature. Each month, we will feature an author of a highly regarded, age-appropriate book, in conversation with a grade 6 educator who will discuss how they teach the book in their own classroom. There will be plenty of time for Q & A and teachers will leave the session with practical tools. All educators from every province and all grades/roles are welcome!

Join us for a special Challenging Stories Book Club event featuring Bruno Pileggi and Ana Rita Santos-Furtado of the Toronto Catholic District School Board!

Bruno and Ana will share thoughtful, classroom-ready approaches rooted in Catholic values such as compassion, justice, courage, and hope. Drawing from their extensive experience in Catholic education, they will guide teachers through virtue-based discussions and classroom-ready activities that deepen students’ understanding of both the novel and the historical and moral lessons it offers.

This session has been thoughtfully designed for Grade 6 teachers in Ontario’s Catholic schools, but it promises to offer rich insights and inspiration for all educators, regardless of grade level or school board. Everyone is welcome!
